Publicly pressed six major meatpackers/food companies to convert plants to vegan-only production
As a shareholder, PETA demanded these companies "convert all slaughterhouses to producers and packers of only vegan meats." At Maple Leaf Foods' June 24, 2020 virtual annual meeting a PETA representative directly questioned the CEO, who acknowledged pandemic-driven demand for plant-based alternatives; PETA reported no concrete commitment from any of the six to fully exit animal slaughter.
What shareholders voted on
From Smithfield Foods’s own filings with the SEC. Support is the share of votes cast for and against, so abstentions and broker non-votes are not counted in it.
