Why shareholder democracy is independent
National statistical capacity is built by governments and donors. The UNSDG Reports note that 159 countries now have statistical legislation compliant with the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics. They also note that international funding for data and statistics fell by more than 20 percent between 2018 and 2020. Telecom and technology firms hold data that could complement official statistics, but we found no shareholder resolution and no documented corporate lobbying on statistical capacity. There is no evident corporate or lobbying lever for this target.

Telecom and technology firms hold data that could complement official statistics, but no shareholder proposal, investor letter or coalition engagement asking a company to share or improve such data for official statistics was located.
