American Civil Liberties Union
Already advocating as a shareholder
Files shareholder proposals through an affiliate. The ACLU of Northern California filed shareholder proposals at AT&T and Verizon in 2013 calling on both to publish transparency reports showing how often and what kind of customer information they hand to US and foreign governments, filing, in the ACLU's words, as customers, shareholders and citizens, alongside institutional investors including the New York State Common Retirement Fund and Trillium Asset Management. The national organization has separately campaigned publicly for shareholder support on proposals filed by others.
