A nonprofit, nonpartisan association of US public, corporate and union employee benefit funds, public asset managers, foundations and endowments, founded in 1985 by public pension fund officials to pool proxy power. Its voting membership is more than 135 benefit plans, endowments and foundations with roughly $5.6 trillion under management. It advocates on corporate governance, shareowner rights and financial regulation, including to index providers and the SEC rather than only to individual companies.
