Already advocating as a shareholder
In 2022 the union joined the #MakeMarkListen campaign at Meta and endorsed two shareholder resolutions: one asking for a performance review of the audit and risk committee over its oversight of public safety, and one asking for an independent assessment of the harms Meta's metaverse products could cause users. The union cited cyberbullying, damage to young people's mental health, and algorithms that keep children hooked. It also publishes guidance urging public pension trustees to review their portfolios for private prison holdings and to raise the issue with the companies those funds invest in.
