The Private Equity Stakeholder Project (PESP) is a nonprofit watchdog organization, founded in 2017 and headquartered in Chicago, Illinois (IRS-registered as Financial Services Stakeholder Project), that researches the impacts of private equity and broader private funds on workers, tenants, patients and communities across five areas: climate and energy, workers & jobs, housing, healthcare, and detention & surveillance. It works with investors by publishing research, risk trackers and scorecards that rank private equity managers so that asset owners such as pension funds can develop investment policies and engagement strategies; it has not been found to file or co-file shareholder resolutions in its own name.
